Get Your Kicks on Route 66
A One-Day Workshop for Secondary Teachers
West Texas A&M University
Canyon, Texas
July 22, 2009

Sponsored by
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas; Texas Council on Economic Education; and West Texas Center for Economic Education, College of Business, West Texas A&M University

This one-day teacher workshop for secondary educators examined the West Texas economy and how it relates to what is going on nationally as well as globally. The event addressed the major economic drivers that make this region work, especially as they relate to the natural resources of wind, water and energy. A look back in time to the Great Depression and its differences and parallels to the current recession accompanied a visit to the Panhandle–Plains Historical Museum. Sessions on bringing the content into the classroom were also provided.
